I saw some cups and saucers on Pinterest with really simple but cute faces painted on and realised that I still had some cups and saucers like that. I didn't want to just copy what I had seen, so I gave it my own, French twist. Sacre Bleu! I didn't know I had it in me.

The last three years I was a volunteer for the Food Bank and they could do with a nice big colourful painting to cheer up the premisses. I thought it was a challenge to try something new, so I painted this on a big canvas with acrylic paint. I am ready to start something new, so this will be my goodbye present. I will miss the nice people that worked there with me though....
You can make the pictures bigger by clicking on them This was a big project that I got inspiration for when I did the workshop with Mary Gosden in March. Somehow it seems it wasn't to be: At the workshop the newly bought carbon paper did not work so I could not transfer the picture onto the plate. Was it a sign? The plate had the perfect shape so some months later I did get started. But after two firings I notice that the black paint was chipping off. I had forgotten to mix some liquid gold in the black paint and the glaze of the plate was very hard. In close up you can see the little chips of paint missing. One of the hardest parts of life is deciding whether to walk away or try harder.I nearly walked away but remembered the words of an art teacher who said to never give up if things don't turn out as planned: Just keep working it. So I designed a rim around the clock with the help of stickers. This is the finished face of the clock. I have dotted some liquid gold where the paint had come off. Although it won't be suitable for food it is still a nice bowl to have in the hall and put your keys on when you come home for instance.
Glad I didn't walk away after all. |
