I wanted to paint shells around it (my favourite subject after all)but my daughter pointed out that there are no shells on that beach, just pebbles and rocks. We agreed that it was likely that mussles would grow on the legs of the pier though so I was allowed to paint them :) I offset the rim from the centre to give it the effect of a port hole. The rim inside the porthole was painted with shiny silver luster with the idea of adding a glistening to the water but unfortunately the luster was dull after firing.
In case you wonder why it all took so long: After the workshop in June we went back to England for a month because our daughter graduated there. So I finished the plate in September but since then we moved within England so the last two months I have only been painting walls and ceilings. But I now have my own studio to paint in so I can't wait to start porcelain painting again!
